Mike's North Fork Moment of the Month

Welcome to the first post of the newest addition to the NBCA website blog: Mike’s North Fork Moment of the Month!

By way of introduction, I’m Mike McLaughlin, a resident of Sound Shore Road for 12 years and the co-host of late (with husband Larry Merritt) of NBCA’s annual scholarship party. I started taking pictures as a hobby 20 years ago when we first moved to the area and became enthralled with the beauty of the North Fork. Since then I’ve developed my skills and have been fortunate to have had the opportunity to exhibit my work in many quality galleries across Long Island and in Manhattan.

“Potato Truck” is one of my earlier and favorite photos. Even though we were living in Baiting Hollow at the time I happened to take it in Northville – at the Wells Family Farm field just to the east of Penny’s Road. To me it encapsulates the agricultural heritage of the area, the rustic beauty of many of the implements of farming, and the uniquely soft and golden light that the East End of Long Island is known for.

The plan is to post a new “moment” at the beginning of every month. I hope you enjoy the photography as well as identifying what I’m pretty sure will be some familiar locations. And, if you’d like to see more photos [sales pitch alert!] I will be producing a 2024 NBCA calendar for sale with net proceeds benefitting the scholarship fund. Stay tuned to the NBCA website for details in the near future.
