Hello Northville Beach Community!
I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as the New Town of Riverhead Superintendent of Parks and Recreation. My name is Ashley Schandel (King) and I have been with the department full time for 11 years. My roles in the department have been ever changing and growing. I have been very hands on in all aspects of the department and am confident that I can bring a lot of this experience and knowledge to this new position.
I am a Town of Riverhead Resident (Wading River) and am married with 2 young children. I have been involved with athletics and recreational activities my entire life and have now entered a new chapter of involvement with my children and family. I am a member of the community and strive to bring wonderful parks, facilities, events, and programs to all of us!
We currently operate approximately 40 total parks, beaches, waterfront access points, and a community center. Along with these operations, we offer recreational programming, bus trips, special events, and seasonal employment. I am looking forward to what the future brings for this department and I would like to have open communication with all of the communities within our town. I feel it is very important to hear from the residents on improvements they are seeking and see how we can make it happen with several departments involved as well as the funding available.
My goal is to take a "fix the foundation" approach and get us into a good place with our facilities- (repairs/replaced/maintained) and programming, then expand and grow. With this statement, we have been diligently working on a comprehensive plan for our parks and we appreciate all input. There are a few parks that have not been completed yet (missing playgrounds, shelters/pavilions) so I will not promise that a few new builds will not happen, but I want to create safe and fun facilities for all to enjoy!
