Spring, of course, is a time of beginnings. The beginning of more temperate weather, the beginning of friends and neighbors returning after Winter, and the beginning of the growing season. I love the up close and personal view we have of the crop cycle here on the North Fork. And in particular the view of it as we approach Northville Beach coming up Penny’s Road. In this photo, looking north towards Sound Shore Road a few years ago, a recent planting of potatoes takes root.

It’s a little sad to see some of the old wooden barns on the North Fork fall into disrepair and sometimes collapse. Sadder still was my assumption that the number of such structures would only decrease, that any new barns would be of the metal shed variety. I’m very happy to have been proven wrong over the last few years.
