Make Pier Ave safer

Hello neighbors
As 10 year residents on Pier Avenue, we have watched the traffic become faster and more dangerous, not only for us living there but for anyone turning onto or walking on the very narrow shoulder. Those of us that walk or run every day know how difficult it is.
I learned that there is a Traffic Safety meeting at Town Hall next week. I plan to attend to ask for a stop sign midway between Sound Ave and Iron Pier Beach. I believe it will slow traffic considerably and also allow drivers to see oncoming traffic that the rolling landscape hides until it’s right there.
I know this will be a process that takes a while but I would like to go to the meeting prepared to show that I am not the only resident that thinks a stop sign is necessary.
Comments on this blog will help tremendously, but I also hope to come around with a petition letter that I can show the committee.
The meeting is at Town Hall at 8:30am on 12/18. The Highway Department referred me to this as the place to start. The Supervisor suggested we have a letter with signatures.
Thanks for your attention.

I am pretty sure I’m gonna be the odd man out here, But I think it’s time we put on our big boy pants & take a little responsibility for ourselves and not push it off on everyone else. I have been taking Pier Avenue for 62 years now, long before the house you live in was even thought of. (Except 1)
And still I drive it daily, slowing down & moving over for all the walkers out there every morning, even the ones with dogs on 8’ leashes that stand there in the middle of the road. There’s always gonna be a few jackass’ that drive in a lawless manor, but we shouldn’t need to change our driving habits…
We definitely need a stop sign, cars speed down Pier. And remember, a few years ago, someone died after speeding into the sound!

Sound Shore Road
Anyone who walks on Pier Avenue (and many of us do) knows how fast cars go and how dangerous it is.. The requested Stop sign will help create a much safer road for all.
Please address this hazardous situation as soon as possible. Thank you.
Live on Sound Shore Road 36 years and my husband and I walk on Pier Ave and we are very much in favor of a stop sign Cars are driving way too fast
Cars speed on Pier all the time creating a unsafe situation for other drivers and pedestrians. The road is straight and drivers do not realize there is limited visibility in some areas.A stop sign and enforcement is needed to protect the residents!
