Update on Pier Ave Traffic

The Riverhead PD put up a speed counter on the corner of Pier and Henry Lewis. The results were that the average speed was 37mph. My thought is that for all the safe drivers clocking at 25 to 30, there were as many going over 50 in a 35 zone. I have asked for a copy of the report. There have been patrols of Traffic Control. Just yesterday I saw RPD stop 3 drivers within the 1 hour that I was out walking. It was also reported that a patrol car closed the beach at 8:30pm. What a great day for safety on Pier Ave.

Please be mindful of the speed patrols and let me know if you see continued monitoring. It should show that we DO need a stop sign. 🤞
