Mike's North Fork Moment of the Month

It’s a little sad to see some of the old wooden barns on the North Fork fall into disrepair and sometimes collapse. Sadder still was my assumption that the number of such structures would only decrease, that any new barns would be of the metal shed variety. I’m very happy to have been proven wrong over the last few years. Beginning with the Henpecked Husband Farms barn on Northville Turnpike and followed by the North Fork Flower Farm barn in Southold, among others, I can see that our population of wooden barns can actually increase.
Even better, our collection of old wooden barns can actually grow too - as evidenced by the relocation and reconstruction of an 18th century New Hampshire barn on the McCall Wines property. It was fascinating to watch this barn go up in 2023 and I’ve enjoyed driving by it ever since. This photo was taken on a crisp Fall day last year.
